To sign up for this newsletter click here. | | | | | | | | After a weekend where outrageous after parties, celebrities (in the front row, on the catwalk, and behind the designs), and other mishegoss made headlines, New York Fashion Week settled back into the actual fashion. The highlight of Monday night was a highly anticipated return twice over. The label Helmut Lang is back as a serious presence, this time with “designer-in-residence” Shayne Oliver on board (Oliver’s own beloved label Hood By Air went on hiatus earlier this year). “It came from wanting to feel sexy, wanting to feel protected,” Oliver told us of the collection which was shown on street-cast and professional models. It was notably, free of Insta-stars and scions. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Gigi Hadid was quite the professional when she lost her shoe during the Anna Sui show, but continued walking without it. You can also see our choices for the best looks so far here, and check out the street style here while you’re at it. | | |  | | | |  | | The world could use a good laugh right now, and thankfully three of our favorite female-created comedy shows are getting a jumpstart on the fall TV season by all coming back this week one right after another. Last night, the season premiere of The Mindy Project debuted on Hulu, and this final season should explore whether the rom-com happy ending is all it's cracked up to be. Reese Witherspoon is slated to pop up in a multi-episode guest run. Tonight on Comedy Central, the girls of Broad City return to take on life post-Trump, although the premiere will open on a lighter and also rom-com informed note: It’s a take on Gwyneth Paltrow’s infamous ‘90s film Sliding Doors. Then tomorrow on FX, Pamela Adlon’s dryly hilarious take on single motherhood Better Things return, with early reviews claiming the season is (somehow) much, much better than its Emmy-nominated first season. All this lady-created comedy is almost enough to make you forget that 30 Rock is leaving Netflix soon. Almost. | | | | | At 73, Lauren Hutton, the model who has more American Vogue covers than anyone, is still quite busy. She’s been on the runway recently, and was featured in a Calvin Klein lingerie campaign. Now, she’s back in the pages of W, and spilling all on her legendary career and how she landed what was, at the time, the biggest cosmetics contract in the history of modeling. But that’s not what she’s most proud of in her career. “I don't think it was as great as when I fought my way back at 47. I think that was a better thing because I just realized that I was looking at magazines and there was no one over 30 in them,” she told us. “So I called every editor that I had, from every magazine all over the Western world and said, 'You know, we're at this nexus in history where women have got to be allowed to represent.'” | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Cuban-born Sophia Lamar has been a staple of underground New York City nightlife since the late '80s.
