Your Reboot Worries

The return of fall TV continues to roll out, and two-thirds of your Shondaland shows (Grey’s Anatomy and How To Get Away With Murder) return to ABC tonight; but of course, the biggest return of the season—one 11 years in the making—is that of Will & Grace. According to critics who have seen the first batch of episodes, anyone fearing that the return may not live up to the hype can take a deep sigh of relief. Aside from some political elements in the first episode, the show pretty quickly returns to the same old sitcom you remember. “Messing, McCormack, Hayes, and Mullally haven’t lost a single sassy step in their years out of each other’s orbits,” says Vulture. “Pros at the top of their game, absolutely killing it,” writes TVLine. “The new episodes are certainly more political and even a little gayer than we expected, but just as funny and nostalgic as we hoped they would be,” raves The Daily Beast. As for the show’s original finale? Don’t worry about it. It’s quickly dismissed in the first episode (though not as quickly as Kevin James’ now-deceased TV wife).

Actual Television (You Know, Except for Will & Grace)

The streaming service wars may be just as intriguing of a drama as anything actually on television. Hulu, now in a renaissance, just swiped up exclusive streaming rights to 30 Rock from Netflix, but both companies may want to be wary of a new player on the rise: Apple. The tech company has started dabbling in original programing, most notably with Carpool Karaoke, but that’s nothing compared to what’s in the pipeline. The Hollywood Reporter claims that Apple’s entertainment execs have been spotted taking meetings all over Hollywood with everyone from Jennifer Aniston to Steven Spielberg to Ryan Murphy. The goal, for Apple, isn’t to become a complete TV destination, but rather to focus on big, expensive, must-watch shows. "Who wouldn't want to be the Mad Men or House of Cards on Apple?" one studio exec told the trade. Though the company did lose out to Netflix on Murphy’s latest project (a Nurse Ratched show starring Sarah Paulson), they’re still in the game for show from Spielberg and Aniston’s previously announced morning TV-themed team-up with Reese Witherspoon. It’s only a matter of time until they announce their first big get.

Subtlety

Fashion month has hit its final destination in Paris and it was worth the wait...mostly. Thankfully, the French designers certainly don’t seem to be thinking about restraint or the ordinary. Anthony Vaccarello had what may have been his best collection for Saint Laurent yet by paying homage to the house signatures, though with his own notably voluminous and playful twists. The takeaway: A rockstar-glam take on boho and mountains upon mountains of ostrich feathers are certainly in. At Maison Margiela, John Galliano deconstructed airport style in the most literal way. That included trench coats and jackets that seemed as if they were slashed apart and reworked into everything from dresses to bustiers—one look included a bag made out of luggage tags. Dior went broken disco ball. Jacquemus found inspiration in his mother’s tropical vacation wardrobe, which apparently included monumentally-sized sun hats.
