In: Fashion Week’s Best | Out: Liam Hemsworth, Sorry

Another New York Fashion Week is in the books, but at least Nicole Kidman decided to stop by.

New York Fashion Week

And just like that, another New York Fashion Week is in the books. The week was cut short this year by a day, and a small but still influential number of labels (including Altuzarra, Rodarte and Proenza Schouler) decided to show in Paris instead, causing some to hyperventilate about the depleted slate. As it turned out, there was still a lot to behold. In the final two days, Solange Knowles performed at the serene Maryam Nassir Zadeh show. Coach went big on glitter (literally the runway was a facsimile of a New York street covered in glitter). Nicole Kidman and BFF Naomi Watts both made rare NYFW appearances to take in Michael Kors’s beachy collection that cut the difference between nautical and tropical (which is to say it was perfect for both Palm Beach and Cape Cod-very on brand). Then Marc Jacobs finished everything off by putting seemingly everything down the runway in a gloriously baroque fantasia. Seriously, his girls had everything from hippie sandles to fanny packs to culottes to capelettes to feather boas. Oh, and headscarves. Everyone had a headscarf-cum-turban. For a pictorial look back at the week, find our favorite looks here, the best street style here, and a behind-the-scenes look here. Of course, as is now de facto, find out all the children of celebrities who made their runway debut here. Maybe one might be the next Kendall Jenner.

Liam Hemsworth

Chris Hemsworth does more than just bare his abs on our latest cover. He also bares some secrets. Apparently the hunky Australian was up against another hunky Australian for this career-making role as Thor in Marvel’s Avengers movies. The other Australian? His own brother Liam. “My little brother, Liam, was in Australia and sent a tape across and he got a call back, then another call back and then was down to the last kind of four or five people for it,” he said. “My manager then called up and said, 'You know, he's got an older brother. Can we bring him back in?' So I did an audition in Vancouver in this hotel room with my mum reading Anthony Hopkins' part. She must have nailed it because it got me back in the room and that second audition was a lot different than my first one. I came in kind of with a little, I guess, motivation and maybe frustration that my little brother had gotten further than me.” And the older, larger Hemsworth got the part. Don’t feel bad for Liam though. He got The Hunger Games part, and Miley Cyrus’s heart.

Apple “Stores”

Apple’s keynote events usually feature little in the way of female presence. Maybe because of the 19 spots on the company’s leadership roster, only five are held by women. Well, Angela Ahrendts, Senior Vice President Retail, has been with the company since 2014 but never addressed the Cupertino crowd before until this week. Among other things she announced was that Apple stores will now be called Apple “town halls,” but what really made Twitter explode was her exquisite pink Burberry lace trench coat. We guess people just weren’t used to seeing fashion moments at Silicon Valley events.  Though, it shouldn’t be a surprise that Ahrendts knows a thing or two about how to make quite the fashion impression. Before coming to Apple her previous job was as CEO of Burberry.
