This weekend we’ll all finally get a chance to find out what Jennifer Lawrence’s new psychological thriller film mother! is actually about. Pairing Lawrence with cult director (and now boyfriend) Darren Aronofsky for the first time, the spooky film has made a point of building up anticipation and speculation and withholding any clues to what its plot might entail. We do know, however, that Michelle Pfeiffer is also great in it, and critics like the film overall. Though, it promises to be an intense experience. One review calls it “a brash, ludicrous, bludgeoning film.” If you can’t handle it, there’s always American Assassin. There’s no secret as to what that one’s about. Dylan O’Brien stars as a young CIA black ops recruit who takes on a terrorist organization. It’s also no secret that critics don’t think much of it. Perhaps you’d rather check out Angelina Jolie’s First They Killed My Father, which finally hits Netflix this weekend. About a young girl growing up during Cambodia’s civil war, it’s Jolie’s best reviewed film as a director yet, and according to the Rotten Tomatoes algorithm, even better than mother! Check out the trailer here. | | | | Jennifer Lawrence in General, As Has Been The Case For The Past 7 Years | Jennifer Lawrence’s Acting Career | Even before mother! premiered, the trailer for Jennifer Lawrence’s next film Red Sparrow debuted on Thursday. Lawrence plays a Russian agent trained to seduce secrets out of the enemy, but doesn’t seem to enjoy it. Unsurprisingly, she considers defecting to the CIA. Lawrence also is committed to at least one more X-Men film, but after that she has nothing on her agenda for at least two years and plans to wind down acting for a bit. “I think I’m just taking a little break. I’ll see you in six months,” she said in an interview with The Today Show. Maybe she’ll take the time to keep up with the Kardashians. She’s a notoriously big fan of the show, but Kim Kardashian only found out that fact yesterday and had a mini freak-out moment on social media. | | | | | | | What to make of this year’s Emmys? Game of Thrones didn’t release new episodes during the eligibility period. Hulu has one of the hottest shows in competition in The Handmaid’s Tale. Four former Best Actress Oscar winners are competing in one category. There’s a lot going on and it’s hard to handicap. So, here’s our biggest question. Nicole Kidman has taken the lead in that particularly stacked Best Actress in a Limited Series race, but can she fend off Jessica Lange? Is Ann Dowd really a lock in Supporting Actress in a drama, or will Westworld’s Thandie Newton prevail? Can Donald Glover’s Atlanta end Veep’s streak as best Comedy? Is it really down to Hulu’s Handmaid’s and Netflix’s Stranger Things for Best Drama, or can NBC’s This Is Us pull an upset and prove that the legacy networks shouldn’t be counted out just yet? Oh, and RuPaul's Drag Race won three Creative Arts Emmys, more than any other reality show. Could it become only the third show asides from The Amazing Race and The Voice to win in the Outstanding Reality-Competition Program category? | | | | | | | | | | | Every generation gets the Kennedy it deserves. For Millennials, it’s Jack Schlossberg, the only grandson of JFK and Jackie O (and son of Carolyn). He stepped out with his mom at the Met Ball earlier this year, but you can keep up with him on his Instagram where he posts deep thoughts about Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, dances to Elvis, and, of course, posts more than a few shirtless selfies. Find our quick guide to his greatest Instagram hits here. | | | | | | | | Prince Harry, 33 (Britain’s Jack Schlossberg) Tom Hardy, 40 (Unintelligible) Tommy Lee Jones, 71 (Al Gore’s College Roommate) | | | | | | |
