Movies for Bored Teenagers

It’s a packed weekend at the box office, but one of the most intriguing options may be the ones in fewest cinemas. Emma Stone and Steve Carell's highly anticipated (and possible Oscar contender) Battle of the Sexes starts a slow rollout in just 20 theaters, but critics agree it’s a crowd-pleasing comedy with surprising (and relevant) depths about the historic mixed gender tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs. Meanwhile, Jack Gyllenhaal shines in Stronger, another true-life tale about the long recovery of a hero injured in the Boston Marathon bombing. Victoria and Abdul, notable for another one of Judi Dench’s regal performances, also hits select theaters; and we should note that Stone, Gyllenhaal, and Dench are very much all in the awards season discussion at this point. On the wide release front, well, the star-studded Kingsman 2 seems fun, but critics think it has more style than substance. Lego’s Ninjago is decidedly for the kiddies (unlike other recent beloved Lego films). While the social media-themed horror flick Friend Request is almost assuredly meant solely for teenagers with no other plans.

Megyn Kelly’s Star Power

We’re three-and-half months into NBC’s multi-million dollar Megyn Kelly experiment, and maybe it doesn’t bode well that Kelly is more often the story than actual breaking news. In her latest “hmmm” moment, Kelly scored an interview with all of the Kardashians...except for Kylie Jenner, who decided at the last minute to bail on the interview out of fear that the questions might have been too tough. (They weren’t.) Incidentally, NBC News is trying to rebrand Kelly as a softer, gentler, more relatable journalist ahead of the premiere of her own separate hour of Today on Monday (apparently Jenner didn’t get the memo). There’s a lot pinned on Kelly, especially considering her Sunday night show wasn’t a huge success during its initial run over the summer. Then again, NBC is asking a lot of a woman who back in her Fox News days looked straight into the camera and, with a deadly serious tone, told children that she wanted to be sure that they knew Santa Claus was white.

The Gallagher Family Fights, 2.0

Familial Harmony

Once upon a time, there was a band called Oasis that the British press pegged as their next Beatles. It didn’t quite play out like that, and the band’s main members, brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher, are now best known for their continued public fight. Turns out the feud is so serious that even their children are continuing on with it. Noel’s 16-year-old daughter, Anaïs Gallagher, was one of several famous young faces to walk in the Gigi Hadid x Tommy Hilfiger show in London earlier this week. Well, Liam’s son, Gene, didn’t think his cousin had any business on the catwalk, and took to Twitter in a rampage to tell his cousin that, “u look like ur dad w a blonde wig on.” Of course, maybe Gene is just a bit jealous; he’s the only teenaged Gallagher who hasn’t scored a fashion gig. Older brother Lennon Gallagher is now a regular on British runways. Or maybe it’s just the Gallagher way to fight with family.

Kaia Gerber
@KaiaGerber

Kaia Gerber is undoubtedly this season’s breakout model star (it’s in her genes; Cindy Crawford is her mom). On Wednesday alone she opened both Fendi and Moschino and found time to walk Prada as well. Oh, she was also spotted wearing the exact same leopard print pants as Bella Hadid off the runway, but oh well. View all of Gerber’s looks from on and off the runway from fashion month so far here
