One was a content maker, the other a content deliverer. Netflix streamed television and movies from Disney and its many subsidiaries and it worked out quite nicely for everyone (especially viewers) for a time. Well, now, Netflix is very much aggressive about creating content, and Disney is starting its own streaming service (meaning all Disney and Pixar branded films will be pulled from Netflix by 2019). Now, Netflix just hit back. They’ve poached TV super producer Shonda Rhimes away from Disney-owned ABC. She says she’s excited to get to explore territory outside the confines of a traditional network. Her current ABC shows will continue to air for the rest of their runs, but Shondaland’s new production will be for the streamer. The real losers? Well, the concept of 23-episode traditional network dramas for one (there’s few left who do them as well as Rhimes), and, of course, people who are devoted to their Rhimes-dominated Thursday night lineup on ABC. | | | | Zendaya made two fashion statements on Sunday night. For her first, she wore pajamas on the red carpet. For her second, she wore a custom Versace gown in bed. Of course, those pajamas were for the Teen Choice Awards (and adding to the statement factor: they were actually pajamas traditionally meant for men). The gown was in Bruno Mars’ new “Versace on the Floor” video (which, yes, was Donatella Versace-approved. She not only made costume clothes for the video, but she already produced her own version of the video complete with her own lip sync). In any event, Zendaya continues to be one of young Hollywood’s shining young style stars. | | | | Prince already owned the color purple, but now Pantone, purveyors of one of the world’s most widely used color matching systems, have made it official. They’re giving Prince his own shade of purple. The hue will henceforth be known as “Love Symbol #2,” named after the infamous symbol he once used as his own name (although, we wouldn’t blame you if you called it “the color formerly known as purple”). The official color was based off Prince’s “custom-made Yamaha purple piano.” | | | | | | | | | | | No one took the Jonas brothers seriously, and yet here’s Joe, 28 today, and now with his own band DNCE, continuing to be a globetrotting rock star. | | | | | | | | Jennifer Lawrence, 27 (Your Totally Relatable Hollywood BFF) Ben Affleck, 45 (Boston Incarnate) Anthony Anderson, 47 (TV Dad-ish) Debra Messing, 49 (Susan Sarandon’s Twitter Nemesis) | | | | | | |
