Kim Kardashian has plans for a full-out beauty empire, meanwhile Justin Beiber can’t even remember the lyrics to his own hit.

The Hottest Young Comedians and Rappers

Our Comedy Journalism

Two influential lists with a history of picking future stars hit yesterday, though they might appeal to vastly different fan bases. Hip-hop mag XXL unveiled their Freshman Class of 2017, which highlights the 10 young up-and-coming rappers who they expect to dominate the next year. Included are perhaps a surprising number of rappers who have been previously profiled or featured at W, including Playboi Carti, Kamaiyah, and Ugly God. There’s also a guy on the list just named “Kyle.” Variety meanwhile unveiled its self-explainatory “10 Comics to Watch for 2017,” and it's a list that includes most recent White House Correspondents' Dinner host Hasan Minaj, Vice’s breakout TV stars Desus Nice and Kid Mero, plus John Early, the only entrant on this particular list that we’ve happened to interview before. Though, the takeaway here is not that we’re better at spotting rapping talent than stand-up talent, but rather that these are 20 young performers you should familiarize yourself with this summer.

Kylie as the Family’s Own Beauty Mogul

It’s not like anyone could fault Kim Kardashian for underachieving. For someone without any traditional talents normally associated with celebrity, she’s made quite a career for herself. Yet, with her younger sister Kylie Jenner turning into a budding makeup mogul and her husband Kanye’s continuing efforts to Yeezy-ize the world, perhaps Kim felt some inspiration to do even more. Indeed, the star just announced on Monday that she’s starting her own beauty line, KKW Beauty. It launches next Wednesday and it will be available exclusively online, but no one really knows much about it beyond that. She’ll also launching a perfume later this summer, yet, instead of partnering with existing companies and licensing her name (which is the case almost uniformly with celebrity fragrances) she’s starting these beauty companies from scratch and will presumably have full ownership.

Justin Bieber’s Behavior

Justin Bieber’s professional life couldn’t be going better at the moment. In fact, he just broke a longstanding Billboard chart record long held by the Beatles. He has two songs among the top three singles in the country at the moment with "I'm the One” and his remix of Daddy Yankee and Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito,” making it the 13th week in his career with two songs in the top three. The Beatles' record had stood since 1969. As for Bieber’s behavior, eh, still, as always a bit odd. Sure, he’s still showing up in public in strange outfits and going on unexplained Instagram posting sprees, but then there’s the fact that he still doesn’t even know his own lyrics to “Despacito.” Last month when he was asked to sing the song at a Manhattan night club, he just warbled nonsense like, “I don’t know the words so I say ‘Dorito.'” Fast forward a few weeks later, and he still doesn’t know the words. While performing at a music festival in Sweden, fans tried to coax the Biebs into singing the worldwide hit, he just replied, “I don’t even know it.” An angry fan then launched a water bottle at him (don’t worry, it missed). So don’t worry Beatles fans, the band still owns the record for weeks where they’ve had two songs in the top three that they actually knew the lyrics too.

@HannahDonker

Hannah Donker has been modeling for three years but she’s gotten her biggest break so far as the star of The Weeknd’s “Secrets” video.  “It's been amazing! I have family in England calling me, friends from high school, everybody,” she told us. “My phone is kinda glitching right now.”
