Balenciaga trolls, George Clooney rolls in the dough, and Versace does speedos.

Daniel Day-Lewis says goodbye to acting, while Gal Gadot actually got paid just fine, thanks.

Balenciaga’s Trolling

Falling for It

Even before he took the reigns of Balenciaga, Demna Gvasalia made his mark on the fashion world by openly trolling the industry at his own label, Vetements (and likely was behind some of it as well during his time on the Margiela design team). At Balenciaga it’s taken shape, most notably, in the form of producing luxury versions of relatively mundane objects, mainly bags. He’s made plastic market bags and IKEA bags into leather versions and stuck four-figure price tags on each, and each time they hit stores the internet has gone bonkers. Buzzfeed, for example, almost always takes the bait. The same storyline played out this week with the launch of a $1,100 leather version of a plain paper Balenciaga shopping bag, and once again the internet went nuts. Though, it also racks up tons of buzz and free publicity for the brand. They’re not stopping the joke anytime soon either. At Balenciaga’s latest men’s show in Paris on Wednesday, Gvasalia sent out leather versions of plastic grocery bags and straw beach bags. What can we expect next time? Sheepskin garbage bags? Alligator leather ziplocks? Crystalline versions of those Halloween pumpkin buckets?

Versace Print Speedos

Modesty

FX has delayed production on American Crime Story: Katrina, and pushed up the air date for their Versace-themed season instead and, boy, are they ramping up the anticipation. Mostly through pictures of men in speedos. We’ve seen pictures of Darren Criss in one. Penelope Cruz (in character as Donatella) herself posed in front of a couple of dudes in some. On Wednesday, Entertainment Weekly had exclusive pics of Ricky Martin in one. Let’s not distract from the fact the series is ultimately about a tragic murder at the hands of a disturbing serial killer, but, you know, it is what is. Meanwhile, Ryan Murphy regular Finn Wittrock just joined the cast (in a role that probably won’t involve a Speedo, but who knows). The show will air sometime in early 2018. As for the real Donatella, well, she’s been busy thinking about men, too, and what they’re wearing, and she’s not too into men wearing exaggerated proportions that are all the rage on certain catwalks. “That’s fine. But I like men – if I see a man dressed like that, I’ll kill him!” She told Another Man magazine. “But I understand, fashion-wise, they’re right. And I admire them. But I’m a woman, looking – I’m a straight woman looking to have a man. I want to see a man with a different proportion, but still a man. A masculine proportion.” No word on her personal feelings about speedos.

George Clooney’s $1 Billion Business Deal

Skinny Girl Margaritas

Not since Bethenny Frankel's Skinny Girl margaritas deal have we seen an already rich and famous person get richer off a big liquor deal, but George Clooney’s recent payday makes the Housewives’ liquor line look B-list at best. Clooney and his longtime friends, Mike Meldman and Rande Gerber, started up a tequila brand in 2013 dubbed Casamigos and it’s been a big hit. So much so that they just unloaded it to a British alcohol company for $700,000 and may earn up to $1 billion in the long run. Hooray for them! Of course Clooney is firggin’ George Clooney: Oscar winner, husband of Amal, and father of two newborn twins. Gerber wasn’t doing too bad either. The entrepreneur and former male model is married to Cindy Crawford, and father to two young teens already making their own mark in the modeling industry.

Hailey Baldwin (daughter of Stephen, niece of Alec) may be a model who happens to be very popular and active on Instagram, but don’t you dare call her an “Insta-model.” She thinks its an insult
