The three-time Oscar winner surprisingly announced through a publicist on Tuesday that he was done with acting. Indeed, his next film, a Paul Thomas Anderson flick in which he’ll play a designer who sounds a lot like Charles James, will be his last ever. Of course, if he didn’t make the announcement we might not have figured it out for years. Day-Lewis is notoriously picky about which roles he took anyway. He’s only made six films in the past twenty years. The last was 2012’s Lincoln. Likely because he’s also one of Hollywood’s most notorious method actors. He could spend years getting ready for a single role. Sigh. We guess it falls on his model and aspiring-musician son Gabriel-Kane to carry on the Day-Lewis name now. | Superhero Equality, Actually | | | | The internet was aflutter recently that Gal Gadot was only paid $300,000 for Wonder Woman while Henry Cavill got $14 million to star in Man of Steel as Superman. As it turns out, unlike a certain Russian investigation, this was quite literally “fake news.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, both Gadot and Cavill got around the same amount upfront for their roles, and Gadot might have actually earned slightly more. If Cavill had more in the bank right now, it’s because he got bonuses based off how well the film performed (though, the $14 million mark is apparently not accurate either). Gadot will undoubtedly get those bonuses as well. As it turns out, six-figure upfront paydays for big blockbusters isn’t unheard of for less proven talent in the first place, even if they are the star of the movie. Chris Hemsworth reportedly only got $150,000 upfront for his first Thor movie. Gadot meanwhile signed up for three movies with DC Comics but her original contract didn’t include a proper Wonder Woman sequel. A follow-up seems almost assured to happen, and the actress can negotiate herself a nice pay raise then. | | | | Preconceived Notions of What a Ken Doll Should Look Like | Is Barbie into man buns? Because her longtime on-and-off boo Ken is now rocking one. Or at least a few versions of him now are. Hot off last year’s headline-making move of producing Barbie dolls in all types of skin tones, hair colors and body sized, Mattel has followed up with a similar line of diverse Ken dolls, at least two or which have the questionably trendy hairstyle. Others have hairstyles that range from Bieber bangs to cornrows. There’s also a bit of body diversity going on, though none quite fit the definition of full-on “dad bod” (the term they use for the bigger models is “broad”). The choices were made, of course, with little kids' play habits in mind and the realization that Ken dolls aren’t always used to represent Barbie’s romantic partner (in fact, for a lot of tykes, they pretend the dolls are people already in their lives, like their own father). Yet, adults seems to be having a lot of fun with the dolls too. Or at least the idea of the dolls. Those man buns of course have Twitter in a hilarious uproar. | | | | | | | | | | | Please meet Mika Aaron, one of our ten male models to watch following Milan men’s week. | | | | | | | | Lana Del Rey, 50 (The New Stevie) Prince William, 65 (Future Star of Netflix Series, Probably) Brandon Flowers, 65 (Had a Good Run) Chris Pratt, 68 (Forever Andy) Juliette Lewis, 75 (Academy Award Nominated Thumb Fetishist) | | | | | | |
