Two very important movies are celebrating their 20th anniversaries this year, and they both became star-making turns for their two young male leads. In fact, it’s hard to imagine that the actors would have become quite as famous without them. There’s Titanic, of course, whose anniversary the Internet has been celebrating practically all year, and then there’s Boogie Nights. Interestingly, Leonardo DiCaprio turned down Nights in order to film Titanic, and he suggested the somewhat unlikely (at the time, anyway) Mark Wahlberg for the film. Wahlberg still hadn’t quite proved himself as an actor, let alone as a respected leading man. At the time he was still kind of the guy who pulled down his pants and rapped about “good vibrations.” Wahlberg proved himself in the porn-themed flick, and now he’s one of Hollywood’s highest-paid (and highest-earning) blockbuster actors. Ironically, Wahlberg now says he hopes God can forgive him for his role as a porn star. "I just always hope that God is a movie fan and also forgiving, because I've made some poor choices in my past," Wahlberg recently said. "Boogie Nights is up there at the top of the list," he replied when asked about specific parts. Of course, Wahlberg did make the remarks while standing right next to a Catholic cardinal at a church event, so what else was he supposed to say?

The 15 Minutes Theory

We all know what Andy Warhol said about how everyone in the future would be famous for 15 minutes, and it once seemed like Kim Kardashian and her assorted family members would be the perfect example of that theory. Well, they’ve been around a lot longer than 15 minutes, and now they have their sights set on at least 15 years. The family has reached a blockbuster new deal with E! that will keep Keeping Up With the Kardashians on the air for at least five more seasons. Consider the fact that the show has already run 14 seasons over 10 years and will hit its 200th episode next weekend. In exchange, the family will get a reported $30 million a season (to be divided up as the family sees fit). That will keep the family on the air until at least 2019, and will ensure that the births and early years of at least a few more of Kris Jenner’s grandchildren are included. The family might even be able to squeeze in a few more wedding specials in that time as well, with the way things seem to be going. Of course this means we may never get the answer to a question that keeps so many of us up at night: Could the Kardashians survive without their show at this point, or is it necessary to their brand?

Holding Grudges

Holding grudges seems so 1980s, doesn’t it? Like something out of a campy night-time soap. Millennials are more about healing, giving people their space, mutual respect, and then, if appropriate, healthy reconnections. Take millennial-in-chief Selena Gomez. In the past few days alone, she’s rekindled two of the defining relationships of her early time in the spotlight. Last week, after no public communication between Gomez and Demi Lovato for years, Gomez left a comment on Lovato’s Instagram (the pair go all the way back to filming Barney & Friends together). Then, surprisingly, they popped up on the red carpet together at the InStyle Awards in Los Angeles. Gomez also rekindled a relationship with Justin Bieber over the weekend, according to TMZ at least. Though, not quite like that. The pair did hang out, but just as friends (and with mutual friends), and Gomez’s current boyfriend, The Weeknd, was reportedly cool with it. Apparently, the two got back in touch after Gomez revealed she'd had a kidney transplant over the summer.
