Apparently, Skipping Ozark We’re used to all sorts of rating and sales dates for television, movie theaters, and music, but online streaming services have been notoriously secretive about how many people watch their original movies and shows. However, that might change in the near future. Nielsen, the company that handles traditional TV ratings, says it’s close to introducing a system that would approximate ratings. They’ve already teased some numbers, like the fact that 6.1 million people watched the first episode of Netflix’s Marvel team-up show, The Defenders, during its first week of release, and 4.6 million watched the first episodes of the latest seasons of Fuller House and House of Cards. (Who knew those shows had more in common than titles involving the word “house” and playing card puns?) Meanwhile, another company, Parrot Analytic, says they’ve also figured out their own rating metrics, and claims, surprisingly, that Netflix’s drug drama, Ozark, was the most streamed show of the summer. It was followed by Stranger Things (which, mind you, premiered way back last summer), CBS: All Access’ Star Trek: Discovery, and Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale. For its part, Netflix denies the accuracy of all outside numbers and none of the other streaming services seem eager to comment or divulge their viewership data. Celebrities Keeping Their Love Lives Fun, Flirty, and Open Commitment After reporting earlier this week that being committed and blissfully in love was “in,” we now must inform you that actually, Hollywood has decided that keeping things loose, open, fun, and a *little* mysterious is back in vogue. Take Dakota Johnson, for example. She may be dating Chris Martin. Or maybe it’s Jon Hamm. All we know for sure is that she’s decided to read Infinite Jest, and considering how long that book is, she may not have time to date anyone. Meanwhile, one of the Internet’s favorite former couples to slap #goals onto may actually be back together. Jenny Slate and Chris Pine have been seen once again hanging out, laughing, and grabbing meals in Atlanta. Scarlett Johansson, who was most recently linked to SNL lad Colin Jost, was spotted out on the town with celebrity chef Bobby Flay. Meanwhile, Bella Hadid also tells us she’s keeping things casual. “I go on a lot of dates. All the time,” she said. “Yes, in my spare time. I go on a lot of dates and put a lot of makeup on.” Celebrating Halloween and Christmas at the Same Time Limits When is the appropriate time to start celebrating the Christmas season? The traditional song lead us to believe for ages that it should start no sooner than 12 days before, but in recent years, people have really been testing the limits of the season. Some can’t even wait until the day after Thanksgiving. In fact, noted lifestyle trendsetters, the Kardashians, are already celebrating Christmas even as they’re still gearing up for Halloween. Over the weekend, Kendall and Kylie Jenner were spotted enjoying a double date night with their respective beaus, Travis Scott and Blake Griffin, at Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights. Then, sometime during the same weekend, the larger Kardashian-Jenner clan (sans Kylie, interestingly) were celebrating Christmas in October when former Olympian Nancy Kerrigan stopped by one Kardashian kompound or another and skated with the family on an artificial ice rink. To really confuse the seasons, Kim Kardashian West was spotted buying a Halloween pumpkin and a Christmas tree on the same day. This, folks, is just too much. Of course, the Kardashians do have an excuse: They’re shooting a Christmas special. You, however, should wait until at least November to start busting out the jingle bells. Busy Philipps @BusyPhilipps Sure, actress and Michelle Williams’ BFF Busy Philipps keeps a nice grid, but the real action goes down in the stories—she’s the queen of IG Stories. Even Julia Roberts is a fan.
