There’s a ton rolling out to cinemas this weekend, but Jigsaw, a rejiggering of the Saw franchise, is expected to rule supreme. Critics haven’t released their reviews yet, but you should know by now whether the torture porn horror flick is for you. They’ve certainly released enough of them by now. Thank You for Your Service, which stars Miles Teller as a vet dealing with PTSD (and features Amy Schumer in a dramatic turn), seems to be the critics’ pick for wide release this week. Both Blake Lively’s All I See Is You and George Clooney’s directorial effort Suburbicon have left the critical contingent decidedly mixed. In limited release, there’s Novitiate, a nun drama that is said to give Melissa Leo a good shot at the supporting actress Oscar. Cannes Palme d'Or winner The Square (an art world farce that co-stars Elisabeth Moss) also makes its way across the Atlantic.

Of course, the actual big pop culture event of the weekend—well, besides the Halloween holiday—is the return of Stranger Things. Here’s everything we know about the second season so far. Critics who have seen the first few episodes say it’s different, bigger in scope, but still totally entertaining. For less thrilling Halloween fun, NBC decided to turn its bizarro viral SNL sketch about Tom Hanks’s David S. Pumpkins into an animated special. They’ve released a short teaser, but we still have no idea what to expect. Any questions? Yes. Lots of them. We’ll find out some answers on Saturday at 11:30 p.m. in lieu of a regular SNL episode. Of course, if you’re a discerning, cultured woman curious about the world in a way that extends beyond ’80s nostalgia and holidays meant for kids, Netflix also premieres its eagerly anticipated documentary Joan Didion: The Center Will Not Hold this weekend.

Showtime’s Game of Thrones About a “Kingkiller”

In the far away world of Hollywood, two empires are constantly at war for your premium cable subscription money. House HBO is currently the undisputed champion of the land, but the often underestimated House Showtime is about to launch an ambitious raid. They’ve landed a brand new epic fantasy series produced by Lin-Manuel Miranda and based on the novel series The Kingkiller Chronicle. It’s actually part of a three-pronged plan for the franchise that will also include a motion picture and an interactive video game. Hamilton creator Miranda will serve as creative director of it all, and will provide original music for the series. It certainly sounds intriguing. No release date has been announced.
