On Sunday night, openly gay actor Anthony Rapp told a story to BuzzFeed that he’s actually told publically before: When he was a 14-year-old actor on Broadway, he was invited over to a party at the apartment of another now well-known actor, then 26, who eventually made what Rapp described as an aggressive sexual advance. This time, however, Rapp added the actor’s name: Kevin Spacey. The condemnation of Spacey was swift, and the actor responded by saying he didn’t remember the incident, but apologized. Oh, right, he also took the opportunity to finally come out as a gay man to the surprise of no one this side of John Travolta. Naturally, GLAAD and several prominent out entertainers condemned the move as a cowardly attempt to try and change the narrative. Meanwhile, Netflix, which carried Spacey’s show, House of Cards, says they’re “deeply troubled” by the allegations, and that the show’s in-production sixth season will be its last.

The first shoe dropped on Monday in Robert Mueller’s investigation into the Trump campaign’s alleged entanglements with the Russian government when former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and his business partner Rick Gates were both indicted. They face multiple charges, including money laundering and “conspiracy against the United States.” Manafort specifically is charged with funneling millions of dollars he made while doing political work in Ukraine into offshore and untaxed bank accounts. As part of the investigation, records of Manafort’s personal spending were released. Turns out he’s spent nearly $1.4 million on clothes in just two stores between 2008 and 2014 (not even the high-end menswear experts at GQ can quite wrap their heads around that one), and almost another million on antique rugs. Please, take a minute to imagine how the world would react to such spending habits if he were a woman. In any event, the pair turned themselves into the FBI Monday morning and now remain on house arrest. How this story ends and how far it reaches remains to be seen.

New York may be America’s cultural capital, but for the past 91 years, it has had some deeply square laws when it comes to dancing. Technically, it’s forbidden for any place that sells food or drink to allow its customers to so much as to sway to music without a proper license, and just 97 places in the entire city have that license. That law dates back to the Prohibition era, but was only selectively enforced until former Mayor Rudy Giuliani brought it back in a big way in the ‘90s. More recent administrations have been more permissive, but the law has stubbornly remained on the books. Now, finally, it seems that the City Council has enough votes to repeal the anti-dancing aspects of the law once and for all. The way to celebrate the news should be obvious.
