All Dudes, All the Time
In these strange times, late-night talk-show hosts are some of our most prominent voices of reason, which doesn’t forgive the fact that the format is still dominated by white guys, as it has always been. Tonight, however, we find two new female entrants into the arena. The first comes via BET’s The Rundown With Robin Thede (which premieres at 11 p.m.), and it packs quite a pedigree. Thede was the head writer on Larry Wilmore’s Nightly Show, and Chris Rock serves as an executive producer. Thede will become one of the very few black women in history to host a late-night show, but she says her program is open to anyone. Though she’s certainly aware of the network’s audience and the times. “We’re not going to spend a half-hour telling you Trump is bad, because black people didn’t vote for him anyway. They know that,” she recently told The New York Times. We’ll sidestep the query as to whether programs on streaming services can truly be considered “late night” to also remind you that Hulu’s I Love You, America with Sarah Silverman is also available for viewing tonight (or anytime you please). The show has a not-so-humble goal: uniting a divided America. “It’s not going to be the breaking news of the day. There are too many shows that do that too brilliantly,” Silverman told USA Today. "It's going to be a show that's of this moment in terms of the division of the country."

Out: Fur (“It’s a Little Bit Outdated”)
Fur is over, according to none other than Gucci. Yes, the trendsetting Italian fashion house has announced it will no longer use fur from animals specifically bred or captured for their fur, starting with its Spring 2018 collection. "I don’t think it’s still modern and that’s the reason why we decided not to do that. It’s a little bit outdated,” Gucci’s president and chief executive, Marco Bizzarri, told The Business of Fashion. “Creativity can jump in many different directions instead of using furs.” Current creative director Alessandro Michele has used fur in his collections before (remember those fur-lined mules that were everywhere last year?), but he is better known for putting images of animals on his clothes. So we imagine he won’t have any problem making the adjustment while still keeping Gucci chic and relevant. Giorgio Armani, Ralph Lauren, and Tommy Hilfiger have also gone fur-free in recent years, so clearly the tides are turning.

Well, England is putting off its big state visit to welcome Donald Trump for an unspecified time down the road, and instead the president’s early 2018 trip to the country will merely be a “working visit.” He’ll likely meet with Prime Minister Theresa May, but likely will not get time with Queen Elizabeth and definitely won’t stay in Buckingham Palace. Of course, this is assuming Trump even makes it to early 2018. According to the latest inside scoop from Vanity Fair, the president is reportedly in a horrible mood all the time, and has allegedly claimed, “I hate everyone in the White House” in frustration. Among other things, the president is currently upset about Republican Sen. Bob Corker’s recent remarks that the White House is basically “an adult day care,” his backing of a losing candidate in the Alabama Senate primary, and the fact that his legislative agenda has gone next to nowhere. Even Rush Limbaugh is starting to get worried about Trump, especially his recent obsession with the NFL and player protests. “I am very uncomfortable with the president of the United States being able to dictate the behavior and power of anybody,” the conservative firebrand told his listeners. Anyway, for the time being, none of this will be the queen’s problem.
