The Latest Award-Nominated Fashion Designers to Know

The Classics, If Only For Today

We can talk high vs. low, vintage vs. new, and minimal vs. maximalist, but one of the more interesting dichotomies in fashion is classic vs. cutting edge and up and comers. We all know the classics. Now, meet the next generation of young designers thanks to the just announced finalists for this year’s CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund (who will compete for business funding and mentorship) and the American winners of the Woolmark Prize (who will go on to face international competition for the top honors). Christopher Bevans of the menswear label DYNE is actually up for both awards. He’s nominated for the CFDA/Vogue award alongside Ahlem Manai-Platt of Ahlem, Becca McCharen-Tran of Chromat, Victor Glemaud, Jordan Askill, Matthew Harris of Mateo New York, Eli Azran of RTA, Sandy Liang, Telfar Clemans of Telfar LLC, and Patric DiCaprio, Bryn Taubensee, David Moses, and Claire Sully of Vaquera. Meanwhile, Zaid Affas was tipped as the American winner of the Woolmark Prize for womenswear.

Lana Del Rey's Obsessive Fans

Lana Del Rey is notoriously not the most forthcoming interview subject, but ahead of the release of her album Lust For Life this weekend, Pitchfork got the human Instagram filter to open up a little bit more than usual. Of rumors about her love life (which has connected her to everyone from Axl Rose to James Franco to Marilyn Monroe to, most recently, G-Eazy): “They’re usually true. Maybe where there’s smoke there’s fire.” On whether her obsessive fans have ever crossed a line: “They f---ing have. Someone stole both my cars.” On what her new album is about: “I don’t know what it’s about. I don’t know what it is.” On how long she stayed at Kim and Kanye’s wedding after she performed: “I stayed for like 40 minutes and then I left.” But perhaps the best Lana quote of the week comes from her Twitter after she found out fans were downloading her album after it leaked: “U little f---ers,” was her only comment. Please Lana Del Rey fans, do not leak her albums or steal her cars.

Game of Thrones Showrunners

Westeros

The world of Game of Thrones and its showrunners are going separate ways after the series ends, but they’ll both stay on HBO. The premium network already has numerous GoT spin-offs in the works (though, they’ve warned only expect one, and not for a while). As for the showrunners, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, they’re moving on to a different fantasy world: one in which the South won America’s civil war. They’re planning a show called Confederate. Instead of winter coming, the tension will revolve around the coming of another civil war. The series will follow numerous characters on both sides of the “Mason-Dixon Demilitarized Zone.” Sounds ambitious, to put it lightly. Of course, Benioff and Weiss aren’t the only behind-the-scenes talent with new projects in the work. The show’s most frequent female writer Vanessa Taylor co-wrote the script for director Guillermo del Toro’s latest film The Shape of Water. The first trailer for the adult fairy tale hit the web on Wednesday.
