For those who love Sci-Fi or are just old enough to remember when the first one came out, there’s Alien: Covenant. The second Alien prequel seems to have critics divided unlike any film so far this year. Some think it’s an artsy blockbuster masterpiece. The Telegraph calls it “grandiose, exhilarating, vertiginously cynical and symphonically perverse.” Others aren’t so sure. The Washington Post thinks you might just be better off staying home and watching the original. Elsewhere, for teen girls and those who just love entertainment aimed at them, there’s the Amandla Stenberg-starring Everything, Everything, a YA novel adaptation about a girl who is sealed in her house for medical reasons but still manages to find love. Then, for kids, and the people that have them, there’s a fourth Diary of a Wimpy Kid flick. It’s the first in four years and finds the franchise with a completely new cast. Though, a portion of its target audience wasn’t even alive when the first was made back in 2010, so they might not even notice. | | | | Your Time to Catch Up on Twin Peaks | Yet, as seems all too common these days, some of the must-see entertainment of the weekend is on television this weekend. Yes, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, which everyone loves (or at least should) is back on Netflix for season three today. Then on Saturday, there’s HBO’s Bernie Madoff movie The Wizard of Lies. Neither of those deserve to be pushed past, but please excuse us, because Sunday finally brings the return of Twin Peaks on Showtime. We have no idea what to expect, but Laura Dern tells us it “blew my mind in ways that were even more unexpected,” and Laura Dern has seen a lot. The show will premiere two back-to-back episodes starting at 9 p.m. Which means, if you haven’t gotten around to it, there’s still time to rewatch (or watch) the original thirty episodes of prequel movie before then. Theoretically. | Griselda Blanco Biopic Movies | Either Jennifer Lopez or Catherine Zeta-Jones | The tale of history’s most infamous female drug lord is a long and twisted one. It’s fitting, then, that the tale of why there’s three biopics currently in development about her is as well. The first was announced years ago, and reportedly Jennifer Lopez and Catherine Zeta-Jones were fighting over the part. Zeta-Jones eventually won out, which was odd considering the Welsh actress would play a Colombian woman. Lopez, however, decided to spearhead her own competing biopic with HBO, which was announced last August. Then comes today’s weird news: Zeta-Jones is no longer attached to the original project, but instead will star in another Blanco biopic, this time on Lifetime. As for the original? Well, apparently Academy Award-nominated actress Catalina Sandino Moreno, who is in fact Colombian, is now signed up to star in that one, which, presumably, is destined for theaters. | | | | | | | | | | | If you need a reason to follow male supermodel Jon Kortajarena on Instagram, well, today is his birthday. | | | | | | | | Sam Smith, 25 (Disclosure-associated Vocalist) Lily Cole, 29 (Doll Face) Jon Kortajarena, 32 (Tom Ford Muse) Grace Jones, 69 (MUVA!) | | | | | | |
