In: Our Big Little Lies Questions Out: Our Insults About Exes

We can hardly wait for Big Little Lies to end, but we’ll miss it when it’s gone. At least there's RuPaul's. ”

Beauty and The Beast, Probably, Still

ScarJo and Alec Baldwin’s New Flicks

Despite entering its third weekend, Hollywood seems pretty convinced that Beauty and The Beast is going to come out as the box office winner for a third time. The real race seems to be for second place among two new releases. The first is Boss Baby, a bizarre animated film that finds Alec Baldwin voicing a baby who also happens to run some sort of corporation. Critics seem to be delighted with trashing it. In fact, one of the nicer reviews we found comes courtesy of L.A. Weekly, which posits that it fails as a kids movie, but “it works much better as an existential horror movie.” Then there’s also Ghost in the Shell, which, as per the reviews so far, isn’t anywhere as good as the anime it’s based on (and that’s not even dipping into the controversy surrounding the casting of Scarlett Johansson in the lead role). Also debuting this weekend, though not positioned as a box office banger, is Jessica Chastain’s The Zookeeper’s Wife. Reviews aren’t particularly terrific, but the WWII-era flicks certainly offers a solid option for those who want more mature fare at theater.

Our Excitement for Sunday Night When the Show Ends

Of course, the real entertainment headline of the weekend will be on television. HBO’s Big Little Lies has proven to exceed expectations, and those were pretty high already considering the project lured both Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman to series (albeit limited) television for the first time since they became big stars. It’s hard to imagine there’s only an hour of the series left considering we still have so many questions. In addition to the main “Who killed who exactly?”plot point, there’s still so many unresolved threads: Who hurt Amabella? Who is Ziggy’s dad? Does Celeste leave Perry? What happens to Adam Scott’s beard? What cool music have the first graders yet to introduce us to? Was there any real reason Madeline had to point out that that waiter was gay? What exactly do all the husbands do to afford those homes? A Buick crossover, Madeline, really? So many, many, many questions. And that’s just on HBO. Obviously, we’re just as eager to figure out who the 14th queen on RuPaul’s Drag Race is.

Complimentary Uncoupling

Bad Mouthing Your Exes

Despite keeping their relationship mostly out of the public eye, the romance of Captain America himself, Chris Evans, and quirky comedian Jenny Slate transfixed the internet in a way few celeb courtships have. Something about it just seemed like the plot from a beloved teen movie, except, you know, it involved actual adults. Of course, the pair has since broken up but they now have the task of promoting their new movie, Gifted, and questions about the relationship are inevitable. Somehow, they’re transfixing the internet all over again with the sweetness of their public comments. “His heart is probably golden-colored, if you could paint it,” said Slate of Evans in one interview. “She’s my favorite human,” said Evans of Slate in another. We’re calling it “complimentary uncoupling,” and even if you don’t have a movie to promote, it might be a good way to handle your next breakup. Everyone’s over hearing about how horrible other people’s exes are anyway.

Betsey Johnson
@XOBetseyJohnson

Is there anyone in the world who seems to be having quite as much fun as Betsey Johnson. You might think you’re having a good time, but the reality is that the 74-year-old fashion designer is just off somewhere else getting her life over the fact that a purse looks like a camera.
