Booking Hair Appointments on Instagram

Talking to a Human on the Phone

Instagram continues to move on beyond simple photo sharing in a big way. After experimenting with allowing merchants to make their posts “shoppable,” Instagram is now getting into beauty, hair, and wellness commerce opportunities as well. The Facebook-owned app announced that they’ll soon introduce a new button that will allow you to book appointments directly through the app, which means that browsing Instagram for hair inspiration and nail art suggestions could directly lead to booking time with the person responsible for them. Obviously the feature could have implications for fitness, wellness and other services as well.

Hacking

Karl Lagerfeld’s Cat

It seems everything is getting hacked this day: political party e-mail servers, credit card databases, entire American presidential elections…Now the hackers have come for Choupette, Karl Lagerfeld’s beloved and unbelievably popular cat. The chic kitty has more than 91,000 followers on Instagram (and, supposedly, a multi-million Euro career as a model), but apparently does not have a good cybersecurity plan in place. The actual account is handled by Ashley Tschudin, a social media assistant. According to WWD, Tschudin posted on Instagram that the cat’s Instagram account had been hacked and the password changed. As it turns out though, the hackers haven’t bothered to post anything on the account, for now at least.

Rotten Tomatoes

Is Rotten Tomatoes ruining the film industry? Brett Ratner, the not particularly critically adored director of films like X-Men 3 and Tower Heist thinks so, and, well, actually he might have a point. “The worst thing that we have in today’s movie culture is Rotten Tomatoes...When I was growing up film criticism was a real art,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “And there was intellect that went into that. And you would read Pauline Kael’s reviews, or some others, and that doesn’t exist anymore. Now it’s about a number.” He’s certainly right that there’s a big difference between reading an in-depth review and glancing at a number (and even when a film gets absolutely savaged there’s always a few critics who enjoy, and maybe you might just agree with them). Of course, Ratner then points to Batman vs Superman, a film his production company just so happened to co-finance, as an example. Though that movie made boatloads of money, it was critically panned.
