"Some people say, ‘Never let them see you cry.’ I say, if you’re so mad you could just cry, then cry. It terrifies everyone."

Teenage Girls, According to Harry Styles

Harry Styles is a star thanks to his hordes of devoted teen girl fans, and he not only knows it, but he’s got their backs as well. "Who's to say that young girls who like pop music–short for popular, right?–have worse musical taste than a 30-year-old hipster guy?” he said in a new profile in Rolling Stone. “Young girls like the Beatles. You gonna tell me they're not serious? How can you say young girls don't get it? They're our future. Our future doctors, lawyers, mothers, presidents, they kind who keep the world going. Teenage-girl fans – they don't lie. If they like you, they're there. They don't act 'too cool.' They like you, and they tell you. Which is sick." Elsewhere in the interview, Styles is asked to respond to former bandmate Zayn Malik’s recent assertion that the music that they made together in One Direction was not “cool s***.” "I think it's a shame he felt that way," responds Styles. Though, remember, he admires people who don’t act “too cool.”

Richard Gere

There’s seemingly no good reason Richard Gere shouldn’t still be popping up in mainstream studio flicks. He’s a proven quantity in Hollywood who has helped carry some major movies over the years. You’d expect him to at least snag a supporting role in some Marvel movie or something. Yet, he’s been mostly sticking to indies lately. Turns out Gere didn’t plan it that way necessarily. In fact, he says the reason he’s been shunned by mainstream Hollywood: mainland China. An active Buddhist, Gere has long been an outspoken activist for the Tibetan cause, something the mainland Chinese government isn’t too pleased with. China is increasingly a power in the global box office, yet the government still has strong controls about what foreign films roll out in cinemas. Gere himself, who is actually banned from China, is apparently a no-go for any film hoping for a Chinese release, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He’s not completely mad about it. "I'm not interested in playing the wizened Jedi in your tentpole," he says. "I was successful enough in the last three decades that I can afford to do these [smaller films] now."

Kevin Spacey, Tony Awards Host

  Out Text Logo

Tina Fey, Neil Patrick Harris, James Corden…

The Tony Awards seemed to have an awfully hard time finding a host this year. Originally trying to snag Tina Fey (her Mean Girls musical premieres in time for next year’s ceremony), the awards were rebuffed due to a scheduling conflict. Same for veteran hosts Neil Patrick Harris and Hugh Jackman. Last year’s host James Corden wasn’t up for a repeat (he just hosted the Grammy’s in February). It was anyone’s guess as to who they’d come up with. Well, the American Theater Wing has finally decided on Kevin Spacey. He’s a theater vet himself. He got his start on the stage, won his own Tony in 1991 and is artistic director of the historic Old Vic in London, but he’s a far cry from the singing, dancing, funny men the Tony Awards have turned to in recent years. Certainly, some House of Cards fans are excited by the surprising pick. We assume he’ll bring his trademark intensity, but he’s already cracking jokes. “I was their second choice for Usual Suspects, fourth choice for America Beauty, and 15th choice to host this year's Tony Awards. I think my career is definitely going in the right direction," he quipped in a statement.

Aubrey Plaza
@PlazaDeAubrey

Fresh off the first season of Legion, Aubrey Plaza is prepping for the promotion of her next movie, The Little Hours. She stars alongside Alison Brie and Kate Miucci as a trio of foul mouthed and libidinous nuns back in the 14th century. Somehow this all makes sense. Check out the slightly-NSFW trailer here
