The wage gap between men and women in Hollywood has been a hot topic lately (did you see the Golden Globes, perhaps?), especially after USA Today revealed that Mark Wahlberg got paid $1.5 million for reshoots on All The Money in the World while Michelle Williams got only an $80 per diem, totaling less than $1,000. Yet there’s hope things may be changing. After 14 years on one of television’s hottest shows, Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo cashed in big time for the show’s next two seasons—and she wasn’t afraid to let people know about it. The actress, who will make more than $20 million a season, penned an essay in The Hollywood Reporter about her long journey toward feeling comfortable asking for $575,000 an episode. “I'm not going to have this whole second life as a movie star,” she wrote bluntly. “I'm not f---in' Julia Roberts.” On the same day, news also broke that Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon will be earning $1 million per episode for the second season of Big Little Lies, putting them up there with some of the highest-paid actors in TV history. Though that was in part because Witherspoon also recently struck a deal for one of her other upcoming shows (the one about morning TV, with Jennifer Aniston, for Apple TV), which will pay her and Aniston $1.25 million per episode each. On one level, this may seem like millionaires congratulating themselves for getting more money, but on the other, hey, women are entitled to bargain just as hard as Mark Wahlberg.

It seemed almost inevitable. Fire and Fury, Michael Wolff’s entertaining, best-selling (if controversial) exposé of the first year of the Trump White House, is being turned into a television series. Yes, Endeavor Content has bought up the film rights and plans to shop it around as a series. Feel free to commence your fantasy casting: Laura Dern as Kellyanne Conway, anyone? Or should it be her Big Little Lies co-star Nicole Kidman with some prosthetics? John Goodman as Steve Bannon? Or perhaps his Big Lebowski co-star Jeff Daniels? Scarlett Johansson has to be on the shortlist for Ivanka, and clearly Millie Bobby Brown is a shoo-in for Jared Kushner. Of course, there’s the matter of who should play Trump. Here’s our unsolicited piece of advice: Keep him totally offscreen, or deal with Trump the way The Post deals with Richard Nixon. Infamously, Wolff talked to almost everyone in the White House except Trump, and most of the money quotes come from insiders talking about the president behind his back, anyway. Trump impressions have a tendency of wearing thin fast, and television is already filled with far too many of them. Focus instead on the plotting and scheming and backstabbing his staffers were up to when he wasn’t in the room. Sure, that kind of sounds like an evil, bizarro version of The Office, but we’d watch. Who wouldn’t?

A Bold New #Wangfest

In the age of Instagram and insta-shopping, fashion week is ever changing. There were the “see now, buy now” experiments that never seemed to pan out. There have been location changes (many of America’s brightest homegrown talents have opted to show in Europe in recent seasons). Then there’ve been more recent experiments with ditching the traditional fashion calendar altogether. New York fashion insiders woke up this morning to a shock: Alexander Wang is the latest designer to ditch New York Fashion Week. Which is even more surprising since he almost always provided one of the week’s most-talked-about shows (last season he made half the Kardashian clan trek out to Bushwick), and his after-party is (usually) one of the hottest. In recent years, it’s even been branded #Wangfest. Well, now Wang is changing up his business. He’ll show his collections off calendar, during December and June, and, taking a cue from streetwear brands, he’ll unleash new merchandise from his collection in monthly “drops” rather than in season-by-season installments. The move follows those of Proenza Schouler, Rodarte, Tommy Hilfiger, Victoria Beckham, Opening Ceremony, and others who have either left New York or gone off schedule.
