Maximalism, black cherry nails and a new chapter for menopause advocacy.
This morning, I slipped on a light windbreaker on the way to work. At the office, I steeped a mug of apple cinnamon green tea. And, for the first time in months, I'm wearing a sweater and tall boots. This can mean only one thing: it's the unofficial first day of fall.
Of course, as a writer covering fashion and beauty, I've been in autumn mode for a while. Reporting on fall style (maximalism is back) and the hottest seasonal nail colors (black cherry, please) had me gazing wistfully at my cardigan collection long before the calendar flipped past Labor Day. Now, the weather is finally matching my energy.
But even if there's not a brisk September breeze where you live, you may sensing a shift in the winds. We noticed it last week in particular, when Congress held its first-ever hearing on menopause. Yes, the first in its 237-year history. A few days later, the FDA had a public meeting to discuss testosterone use among menopausal women, one of the most controversial topics in the space.
Seasons, fashion trends: some things are guaranteed to change. Others aren't — that is, until we make them happen. The conversations we have around menopause show us that the more we talk, the more we push towards real progress. I'll raise my apple spice tea to that.
