The nominations for the 71st annual Tony Awards were announced on Tuesday, and what they lack in last year’s Hamilton fantasticism, they at least try to makeup for with Bette Midler-mania. The actress' return to a Broadway musical for the first time in 50 years in a revival of Hello, Dolly! was rewarded with 10 nominations, including for Best Revival of a Musical and Best Actress in a Musical for the Divine Miss M herself (a win would mean her first competitive Tony award). It was only bested by Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 with 12 nominations. The play, loosely based on portions of Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace, started its life five years ago in an off-Broadway theater with less than 100 seats, and is now a Josh Groban-starring spectacular. Other contenders, including the crowd-pleasing hit Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the Glenn Close-starring Sunset Boulevard revival, and the “Sure, why not?” revival of Cats went home empty handed. Don’t cry for Glenn Close herself though. She was deemed ineligible on account of the fact that she already won a Tony for the same role back in 1994.

Original Ideas

Speaking of revivals, television continues to be keen on them. Of course, we know that new installments of series as varied as Twin Peaks and Will & Grace are on the way. They may be joined in the nostalgia-fest by other old series. Eight new episodes of Roseanne with most of the original cast is apparently being kicked around as a very possible idea (no word on which Becky they’ll be bring, but hopefully that includes newly minted Tony nominee Laurie Metcalf). The Gong Show, of all things, is coming back (with Mike Meyers hosting in character as a fictional British television legend). Now, ABC apparently wants to revive American Idol as well, which, yes, literally just went off the air a year ago.

A Normal Diet

Bragging About Being Gluten-Free

For the past few years there’s been nothing more in fashion than going gluten-free, even if the science behind the diet is inconclusive. Of course, though sticking to the diet for those who have Celiac disease and are thus gluten-intolerant is recommended, it’s not quite as clear if it’s beneficial to those without the disease. The thinking was “Eh, what could it hurt?” Well, apparently, it actually can hurt. According to a new study published in The BMJ (formerly known as The British Medical Journal), the gluten-free craze might be leading to people eating less whole grains and thus miss out on the heart-helping benefits that actually increases their chances of heart disease. Of course, there are ways to maintain a healthy level of whole grain ingestion while sticking to a gluten-less diet, but apparently not enough people are doing it to keep promoting the fad as a diet suitable for all.

@CaraDelevingne

If you’re wondering if Cara Delevingne got that silver paint off her head after Monday’s Met Gala, don’t worry-she did. She somehow managed to pick up some lipstick in its place though.
