A new report from Reddit confirms something many women already know: When the healthcare system leaves gaps, community often helps fill them.
The report found that 81% of women surveyed feel comfortable discussing sensitive health topics on Reddit, compared with 72% who feel comfortable talking with friends and family. Seven in 10 also said the platform helped them feel better prepared for conversations with healthcare providers.
It’s easy to understand why. A diagnosis can explain what is happening in the body, but not always what the experience will feel like—or what is normal, concerning or worth raising with a doctor.
That’s where community becomes invaluable. It can give us language, questions and confidence. It can’t replace medical care, but it can make care feel less isolating — and remind us that none of us has to figure it out alone.
