What should women in midlife be sure to ask their doctor at their next visit? At your next visit, before you even go, I'm going to ask you to write down the symptoms or the concerns that you have. That gives you a running list of what you want to talk to your doctor about. Often you may only have 10 to 15 minutes with your doctor, so if you can start with the two things that are concerning [you the most] and then share how it's impacting your quality of life. That is the best thing any woman can do. You are so passionate about making people feel empowered about their own health. You’re able to do so much and really be a champion for other people, so when you think about what your dream would be for healthcare, what would that look like in the future, five to 10 years from now? My dream would be to have every person know that their health matters, that they value, that they matter, and the concerns that they have, have the right to be recognized, to be heard and to have answers. So that is my hope as a family medicine doctor. You know, I can only see one patient at a time, but my hope is the passion and the work that I'm putting forward can help as many people as possible to know that your health deserves the best possible care, and if someone isn't giving it to you, they do not deserve your care. In terms of your own personal health, what’s a morning non-negotiable that you swear by My morning non-negotiable is spending time with myself for five minutes in my closet. That is a time that my kids cannot ask me anything—where their shirts are, where their shoes are. My husband can't ask me any questions, as well. It's a time to reset and refresh and check in with myself. And just say, “How you doing, Bayo? What would you like for the day?” And that is non-negotiable. How do you find flow—that moment, or ability, to be fully immersed and present in the moment—in your life? So, I am intentional when it comes to finding my flow, because life gets really busy, and all of us have meetings, we have different things that we have to answer to. So, how I insert flow into my world is by taking a couple of minutes to just pause and do something that I love to do, whether it's dancing, whether it's singing out loud—even though I can't sing—taking a walk. That is how I put flow into my life, and it helps me go back to what I love to do. |
