Being Without a Hat

They say you can’t go home again, but Karl Lagerfeld did on Wednesday. Chanel’s creative director brought the house’s annual traveling Métiers d'Art show to his hometown of Hamburg, Germany. Kaiser Karl chose the city’s new Elbphilharmonie, the new Herzog & de Meuron–designed home of the Hamburg Philharmonic Orchestra, as the setting. Models, dressed in outfits meant to show off the skills of Chanel’s artisan craftsmen partners, walked through the multi-tiered building as members of the orchestra played. Meanwhile, official Chanel muses Lily-Rose Depp and Kristen Stewart (sporting a sort of fashion mullet) hung out. Backstage, Kaia Gerber met up with Hudson and Jameson Kroenig, the sons of male model Brad Kroenig and constant presences on the Chanel runway as well. See the best pictures from the event here. Fresh off accusations that Victoria’s Secret copied makeup guru Pat McGrath’s signature packaging, we have another case of copycatting on our hands. Recall how Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have a kids’ clothing line called Kids Supply among their growing list of capitalistic efforts? Well, two new items in the line caught the eye of Instagram’s favorite fashion detective @Diet_Prada. One sparkly dress bared an uncanny resemblance to a sparkly, custom Vetements dress that was made specifically for North West. Meanwhile, a bomber jacket was a near replica of a vintage Commes des Garçons piece. While we may dream of a world where even small children wear avant-garde, fashion-informed outfits, the resemblance was a little too close for comfort. Kardashian quickly did damage control, explaining in a tweet, “We took 2 pieces from North & Saint’s closet that are their favorite pieces & recreated them. 100% or [sic] the proceeds for those pieces are being donated to The Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.”

Black Mirror is coming back for a fourth season later this month, but since its premiere in 2011 it’s also managed to bring back the entire genre of horror and sci-fi anthologies. There’s HBO’s Room 104, Hulu’s Dimension 404, and Hulu’s upcoming Stephen King-informed Castle Rock. Amazon already has Lore and is preparing Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams (based on the author’s short stories). M. Night Shyamalan and TNT are, as of last check, mulling the possibility of a Tales From The Crypt revival. Now the granddaddy of the genre is coming back. Yes, CBS is reviving The Twilight Zone for its All-Access streaming service and putting it in the creative hands of Get Out director Jordan Peele, a timely and talented choice who should be able to quickly differentiate the show from its competition (and lest you forget, the original Twilight Zone wasn’t afraid to take on social issues at times, either). The sudden explosion of these types of series is leading some to ask: But, isn’t this a little much? Eh, these things are perfect for those who are afraid of commitment in the streaming era. Instead of clicking on an episode of a new show knowing you might have to spend the better part of your free time over the next week or more to complete it, you can just watch one self-contained episode at a time without worrying about keeping up.
