Kanye West, Fashion Designer

mid a concerning exodus of homegrown talent (like Proenza Schouler and Rodarte) to Paris Fashion Week, New York Fashion Week undertook another last minute hit: Kanye West will not be showing Yeezy Season 6 next week as expected. While the show may not always been a critic’s favorite, it did give the town something to talk about. Reasons for the cancellation are unclear, though the official West word seems to be that he was never planning to show-he just set time aside had he opted to show. It’s especially interesting considering Yeezy Season 5 had been West’s most organized and low key showing yet. Though, a collection will still come down the pipeline eventually, it’s perhaps not West’s biggest creation in the pipeline. TMZ reported on Wednesday that a third child with his wife Kim Kardashian West is expected via surrogate in January.

The Latest Oscars Buzz from Telluride and Venice

Getting Too Far Ahead Of Ourselves

The Telluride Film Festival is over, most of the major premieres have happened in Venice, and the Toronto International Film Festival kicks off later today. So it’s as good a time as any to recap the major Oscar buzz that has come out of film festival season so far. The biggest? Veteran actor Gary Oldman is, if not suddenly the front runner then certainly a nomination shoe-in for the Best Actor race for playing Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour. Though, Christian Bale may join him in the category for his turn as an Army ranger in Hostiles. Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water is universally beloved, and may grab a nomination for Sally Hawkins’ wordless performance as a mute woman in the film. Emma Stone’s turn as Billie Jean King in Battle of The Sexes is apparently strong enough to warrant her another nod right after her win. Everyone loves the Matt Damon-starring Downsizing, and the biggest buzz is building behind breakout star Hong Chau. Of course, buzz is simply buzz, and there’s still the Toronto Film Festival as well as those possible Oscar contenders that will premiere outside of the festival circuit. May we remind you that among other high profile films, Steven Spielberg has The Post, a movie starring Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks about journalists who take on an unpopular president (AKA the biggest Oscar’s bait possible at the moment) that won’t be released until December.

Your Favorite Preppy Casual Mall Brands

It’s no secret that traditional mall brands aren’t doing too well at the moment, and not even the most iconic are safe. Indeed, just months after replacing Jenna Lyons in the top creative job, J. Crew Chief design officer Somsack Sikhounmuong has departed the company after 16 years at the company. Meanwhile, Gap Inc. announced that they’ll close 200 locations of its namesake brand and Banana Republic subsidiary (about 10 percent of the total worldwide) and instead spend money on beefing up its e-commerce game. Though, it’s not bad news for every brick-and-mortar star necessarily. Gap Inc. also owns budget-friendly Old Navy and athleisure label Athletica, and expects those brands to continue to grow both online and off.
