“Do not live someone else's life and someone else's idea of what womanhood is. Womanhood is you. Womanhood is everything that's inside of you."

Nut Jobs

On the wide release front, it’s another dicey weekend at your local theater. Brie Larson’s The Glass Castle, based on Jeannette Walls’s bestselling memoir about her unconventional nomadic childhood debuts, and the reviews are decidedly mixed. Seems like if you’re the kind of person who easily cries at movies and enjoys that, then it’s right up your alley (but watch the trailer to be sure). Meanwhile, we also see the release of doll-themed horror movie prequel Annabelle: Creation (with slightly better reviews than you’d expect, but just slightly) and The Nut Job 2 (an animated flick with some confounding political undertones). On the limited front, there’s Robert Pattinson’s serious actor turn in Good Time, which almost won him best actor at the Cannes Film Festival and could yield an Oscar nod (catch the trailer here), and Elizabeth Olsen and Aubrey Plaza’s Instagram influencer-themed satire Ingrid Goes West. Feel free to check out our interview with the pair. Turns out the director had Olsen stalking influencers and practicing her own selfie game to prepare for the part.

You also have the option to just stay home and juggle listening to Kesha's warmly received new record Rainbow with binging Netflix's new show Atypical

Annette Bening

So turns out American Horror Story: Katrina is happening after all. Just not as originally planned. After news earlier in the month that the series had completely stalled, Hollywood Reporter now reports that the Ryan Murphy-produced show has decided to throw out its original plan: basing the season on the comprehensive book The Great Deluge and casting Annette Bening as Louisiana's governor as a main character. Instead, they’re going smaller scale and focusing on one incident during the hurricane in particular. Sarah Paulson (of course) will star as Dr. Anna Pou, an actual figure who decided to euthanize critically ill patients while they were stuck in a hospital for five days without power. As for the Versace-themed season, Murphy has dropped some new hints as to what to expect. The biggest of which is that the series will start with the murder, and move backwards. It will also focus on serial killer Andrew Cunanan’s other victims as well (Finn Wittrock is already onboard to play one of the men). As for future seasons, perhaps now they can produce one on how Ryan Murphy murdered our hopes of Annette Bening winning an Emmy.

In other TV super producer news, Jenji Kohan's GLOW was just renewed for a second season, and she has a new show about a socialite who leaves the Upper East Side behind for a surprising new life coming to Lifetime.

Handsy Creeps

Taylor Swift is being sued because a man touched her butt, and now she has to spend who knows how long in Denver dealing with all the legal drama. She is not happy about any of it, nor would any sane person. To rewind: Swift publicly claimed a Denver radio DJ groped her at a meet-and-greet and now the DJ is claiming it was a lie that ruined his life. Swift testified on Thursday, and just wasn’t having any of it. “I’m not going to allow you or your client [to] make me feel in any way that this is my fault,” Swift said while being cross-examined. “Here we are years later, and I’m being blamed for the unfortunate events of his life that are the product of his decisions — not mine.”
