Everything That Wasn't The Met Gala

We're sure other things happened Monday, but to celebrities, the fashion world, and New York's society set, the only thing that really happened was the annual Met Gala. We saw what everyone wore, picked our favorite cute couples, and, of course, tipped our hat to the brave few who actually stayed on theme and wore Comme Des Garçons. There was fashion, darling. So much fashion. Enough fashion to keep us blathering for days. So let's not, and talk about some of our favorite non-fashion moments on the red carpet instead. Jennifer Lopez and Selena Gomez made it red carpet-official with those famous guys everyone knew they were dating. Jaden Smith and Cara Delevingne, who both recently had to sheer their locks for a movie their co-starring in, dealt with it in a different way. Cara painted her head silver, while Jaden brought this old locks with him in hand. Of course, maybe our favorite was Diddy, who just plopped down to lounge in the middle of the carpet to take a break and admire his date, Cassie.

Trump’s Agenda

Back in March, Donald Trump confirmed art lovers' worst fears about his administration. His proposed budget didn’t include a single dime for the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities, effectively shunning the decades-old institutions. But Trump hasn’t proven himself to be a master dealmaker in government, and disagreement over his budget almost threatened a government shutdown. Thankfully, both (Republican-controlled) sides of the congress agreed on a budget agreement on Monday to keep the federal government funded and running until September. Not only do the NEA and NEH retain their funding, but they actually both got a slight bump from 2016 levels. Of course, the latest agreement still has to be finalized, and it’s very possible that Trump may take aim at the Endowments again later on his term, but for now they’re safe.

Fox News’ Continued Implosion

Bill Shine and Maybe Sean Hannity

Fox News seems to be the go-to news source for our president, but despite reaching the seeming peak of its power and influence, the conservative news network is still reeling from a string of sexual harassment allegations against former star host Bill O’Reilly ex-chief executice Roger Ailes. Co-President Bill Shine, who was seen as an Ailes disciple, suddenly resigned on Monday. Some reports had suggested Shine, who had been with the network since 1996, was responsible for looking the other way when female employees complained of harassment. Now, some sources are reporting that Sean Hannity may be looking to leave the network as well, reportedly because he was such an Ailes and Shine loyalist. Following the forced ouster of O’Reilly, and the departures of Megyn Kelly and Greta Van Susteren, a Hannity exit would mean every single host who had a primetime slot on the network just a year ago would be gone. Those inside sources speaking about Hannity’s future aren’t coming out of nowhere. Over the weekend, Hannity took to Twitter to defend Shine and said his departure would mean the “total end of the FNC as we know it.” C’est la vie.
