In: More First Wives Club | Out: Hamilton Tix

Apparently, you can blame bots for how hard Hamilton tickets are to get.

Hamilton Ticket Scams

Bots

Hamilton is still one of the hottest tickets not only on Broadway, but in Chicago and on tour as well. Seats are hard to come by, but the shady workings of a ticket reselling operation may have made tickets even rarer. At least according to a new lawsuit filed by Ticketmaster. They claim that an operation known as Prestige Entertainment used sophisticated bot technology to buy up 30 to 40 percent of Hamilton tickets available on Ticketmaster over a 20-month period and then resold them at higher value on the secondary market. Prestige had also run similar schemes that targeted high-profile sports events and concerts. Indeed, the company had already reached a settlement with the New York Attorney General’s office earlier this year, but Ticketmaster claims they continue to violate the terms of the settlement. Ticketmaster is seeking $10 million and a judge to ban the company from using bots in the future.

Sarah Jessica Parker’s Characters

Last week brought news that Sex and the City 3 would never happen, but Hocus Pocus would be remade as a Disney TV movie without the original cast. It was incredibly bad news for Sarah Jessica Parker’s most famous characters. Well, this week brings news that at least one of her characters may find new life in a way we approve of, even if she won’t be playing her. Paramount Network (which will replace Spike TV early next year) has commissioned a First Wives Club TV series remake (if you don’t recall, SJP played one of the second wives, even if the movie belonged to her Hocus costar, Bette Midler). The reason it seems promising? Girl's Trip cowriter Tracy Oliver has been brought on to oversee the recreation, which promises big laughs. Unfortunately, a Midler, Goldie Hawn, and Diane Keaton reunion is not the point, and the trio has tried to find the opportunity to reunite over the past couple years on screen to no avail. Though, they could do a joint-cameo. We wouldn’t complain.

Cynicism

After last week’s deluge of new series premieres, ABC has two of the season's highest profile debuts of the season tonight, and they are back-to-back. One’s a sitcom and the other is a dramedy, but they complement each other well. The Mayor (9:30 p.m. EST) answers the question, “What if an aspiring rapper became mayor of his hometown?” According to critics, the results are hilarious if not particularly poignant. “It’s here to subtly remind viewers of what politicians are meant to do, while entertaining them with clever humor and human stories,” writes IndieWire. For anyone who misses the town government comedy of Parks and Recreation, well, here’s a new option. Right after, Jason Ritter stars in Kevin (Probably) Saves the World, about a guy who is tasked by God to save the world. Unlike network TV’s other celestial-themed show, The Good Place, it’s meant to be uplifting. Which, hey, is certainly something people could use right now.
