Staying Cool With Your Exes

  Out Text Logo

Finality

On Tuesday, we reported in this space that love is dead, but for the sake of journalistic transparency we're adding that staying cool with your ex is very, very much in. Amber Heard and Elon Musk (one of a handful of power couples who had announced their separation in the past few days) took to Instagram and its comment section to confirm that, yes, they’re no longer an item, but they remain good friends. The public relationship diplomacy was conducted under a photo Heard had posted of her combing her hair with a fork as if in The Little Mermaid. In even more monumental “staying cool with your ex news,” famed performance artist Marina Abramović and Ulay are once again on good terms. After revolutionizing performance art, the couple ended their relationship in 1988 by traveling to the Great Wall of China, where each started on the opposite end and walked the entire length until they met in the middle (thus marking the only time when “epic” actually is the correct way to term a breakup). The pair remained estranged until 2010 when Ulay showed up at Abramović’s “The Artist is Present" show in a moment that went viral, but the pair got in some legal squabbles since. Well, according to The Art Newspaper, all is good once again. They appeared together at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art over the summer, and have clarified that they’re actually friends again for the first time since that walk to remember in China.

In late breaking related news, now there's murmurs in the tabloids that Angeline Jolie and Brad Pitt may not go through with the divorce after all.

Kim Jong-un

Turns out complete retirement wasn’t suiting David Letterman, so the legendary late night talk show host is coming back. Though, Stephen Colbert needn’t worry about being pushed out and banished to TNT’s 11 p.m. slot (especially considering his lead over competitor Jimmy Fallon is now higher than ever). Letterman isn’t returning to his old CBS stomping grounds, but rather to Netflix. He’ll star in a six-episode talk show for the streaming service set to debut in 2018. “Here's what I have learned, if you retire to spend more time with your family, check with your family first. Thanks for watching, drive safely," he said in a statement. Letterman hasn’t completely slipped out of the public eye since his 2015 retirement. He’s popped up every few months to give a longform interview, each more entertaining than the last. It should be no surprise he still has a lot more to say, and his ambitions aren’t pedestrian with his latest effort either. The show will combine field pieces with interviews. What kind of interviews?  “I want to talk to this Kim Jong-un because I see now where he's just miniaturized a nuclear weapon that he's going to put on his rockets,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “I'd like to talk to this guy because, OK, the haircut. We get all of that. But honestly, what does he want?"

Diplo

Rihanna has collaborated with tons of DJs and dance music producers: DJ Khaled, Calvin Harris, David Guetta, Mike Will Made It. Diplo has collaborated with all manner of pop stars: Beyoncé, Justin Bieber, M.I.A., Madonna, Gwen Stefani. Though, we’ve never thought about it, when we step back, it does seem odd that the pair has never actually linked up before. Turns out, there’s a reason for it. Rihanna thinks Diplo is corny as hell, and Diplo is the one admitting it. In a GQ Style interview, he says he once did get a chance to play Rihanna some tracks but she dismissed his beat as something that “sounds like a reggae song at an airport.” Diplo remains undeterred though. He says Rihanna is “the one artist we can’t ever get ...I think before we’re all done, she’ll be on a song of ours. Hopefully.” Rihanna playfully responded on Instagram with some emojis, and a "my bad, @diplo." In any event, her comment made us realize that a Jimmy Buffett x Diplo song somehow seems necessary.
