Crew began a reinvention in the early ‘00s and soon become the pinnacle of a certain kind of accessible fashion during the Obama-era. While Jenna Lyons was credited with the brand’s aesthetic, behind the scenes it was chief executive Mickey Drexler (who, in a previous gig, also reinvented The Gap in the ‘80s and ‘90s) charting the course in the boardroom. The man’s impact on consumer fashion in America can’t be understated, but just a few months after Lyons departed from the company, Drexler announced yesterday that he’s stepping down as well. The 72-year-old’s decision to hand the reins to former West Elm president James Brett has been a year in the making, but the timing is certainly notable. J. Crew’s sales have been declining for the past two years, and the future of the retailer remains in question. Still, between his stints at J. Crew and The Gap, there are few American merchants alive whose wardrobes have not been influenced by the man in a major way. | | |  | | | Continuing Your Education | Katie Holmes may be a busy actress, producer and, not to mention, power mom, but she’s not content to rest on her laurels. The actress is taking her business skill to another level by enrolling at, of all places, Harvard Business School. “I am so thankful and excited to be @harvardhbs with so many brilliant people,” she wrote in a recent Instagram post. Though, Holmes isn’t going in for a full MBA. Rather she’s dropping in to complete a short class called The Business of Entertainment, Media, and Sports. Holmes isn’t alone as the only celebrity to pop into Harvard for some mid-career continuing education. Folks like Tyra Banks, Channing Tatum and L.L. Cool J have all traveled to Cambridge for some classes before. | | The Ballet-Dancing Subway Hero | Ballet may have a reputation as being delicate and proper, but make no mistake it is a tough discipline to master. Despite dancers' intense physical work and athletic prowess, however, they usually don’t get enough credit. Especially the men. However, 31-year-old American Ballet Theater dancer Gray Davis became a bona fide New York City super hero this week after saving a man from an oncoming train. Davis was waiting for a train at an uptown station when a homeless man was pushed onto the tracks and knocked unconscious. According to reports, Davis leapt into action and onto the tracks. He managed to bring the man back up onto the platform, and jumped up back onto the platform himself. Later, a 23-year-old woman was arrested for pushing the man, but Davis has been heralded as a hero. Though, not without sacrifice.
