Feuding with Food Network Stars on Morning TV

Wednesday will go down in history books as quite a day for awkward run-ins involving talk shows and Food Network stars. Nicole Kidman, queen of the A-List, stopped by Ellen on Monday and decided to stick around to take part in a cooking segment featuring Food Network’s Italian specialist Giada De Laurentiis. The Italian and Australian got on like, well, olive oil and salt water. The awkwardness is best viewed, but it started with De Laurentiis implying Kidman can’t cook and making a bunch of jokes about balls, and ending with Kidman finally taking a bit of De Laurentiis’s cooking and declaring, “It’s a little tough.” There was a lot of Kidman side-eye along the way. At least the pair actually appeared on air together. No such luck for Semi-Homemade star Sandra Lee and Speaker of the House Paul Ryan. The unlikely duo were both booked as guests on Fox & Friends, and the Fox-bots invited Ryan to take part in Lee’s cooking segment, but, according to Page Six at least, Lee told Ryan “I need you to go away so I can collect my thoughts, prepare, and get ready for the segment.” She apparently didn’t even want to be on the same stage as him. The extra intrigue: Lee is the longtime girlfriend of New York’s Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo, a man who seems very, very interested in running for President in 2020. Of course, all this Food Network shade was amateur hour when compared to TV’s true reigning chef queen. You’ll recall that over the weekend Martha Stewart was photographed flipping off a portrait of Donald Trump.

Even More of Your Free Time

Upon its launch, Hulu was the place to watch television shows legally online. Of course, the joint venture between the parent companies of ABC, NBC and Fox relied heavily on being the online home of shows that have already aired on traditional television. The site has since lost a lot of its luster to Netflix and Amazon, thanks to those services’ investment in high quality original programing. Hulu is ready to play catch up. The Handmaid’s Tale was their first big attempt to successfully break into the realm of prestige television (as SNL snarkily suggested over the weekend, Hulu’s new tagline might as well be, ”See Netflix, we have one, too.”), but it won’t be its last. They’ve now hired Joel Stillerman as their new chief content officer. He’s not a household name, but he’s the guy who helped make AMC one. He helped bring the world The Walking Dead, Better Call Saul and The Night Manager. So, what does this mean for you? Well, soon there will somehow be even more buzzy television shows you feel guilty for not keeping up on, and at least one or two you actually do

Political Celebrities

Donald Trump would not be president if not for his celebrity status, and while polls suggest the public isn’t thrilled with how he’s handling the job, it’s not stopping other celebrities from toying with the idea of entering politics, if not straight up aiming for the White House. Oprah previously joked that Trump made her realize that the idea of running for president was possible, though she quickly clarified she wouldn’t actually mount a campaign. Now it’s Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson doing some political musing. When asked by GQ if he would ever run, he “solemnly” replied, “I think that it's a real possibility.” You might remember that 2016 Washington Post op-ed that suggested The Rock could be a winning candidate, and apparently he’s done some real thinking about it. In related news: former Calvin Klein underwear model Antonio Sabato Jr. actually is running for Congress in California. He’ll do so as a Republican in 2018 in a district that leans heavily Democrat, which is to say you’ll probably hear “President Rock” as an earnestly uttered name well before you hear “Rep. Sabato Jr.”

Paris Hilton
@ParisHilton

Paris Hilton was queen of the 2000s, and she’s not afraid to take credit for everything that’s relevant in 2017. “We started a whole new genre of celebrity that no one had ever seen before,” she tells W in a new interview. We also discovered that the cookie jars in her kitchen are labeled Uppers, Poppers, and Quaaludes.
